Yesterday the official technical specifications of the Xbox Scorpio was revealed, and many people widely expected to also find out details about the price of the console, but it did not happen. This will be announced at E3 in Los Angeles, but Digital Foundry has tried to assume the cost of the new platform of Microsoft.
The Eurogamer.net – site chosen by Microsoft to make the official announcement of the technical part of Project Scorpio – spoke with the executives of the company and in several moments they have implied that the console will not be cheap.
This is the hypothesis of Digital Foundry about the price of Xbox Scorpio: “PlayStation 4 Pro launched at £349/$399. Scorpio has a larger processor (the most expensive single part of any console), 4GB more memory, a faster hard drive, a UHD Blu-ray drive and a state-of-the-art cooling solution. All of these add cumulatively to the bill of materials and if I had to guess – and I’ll stress that this isn’t based on anything I might have heard on my visit – Project Scorpio is going to cost in the region of $499.”
Project Scorpio will have an 8-core processor and 6 teraflops power on the GPU, which will enable the use of virtual reality devices. In addition, it will have the ability to run games in 4K. Still, Microsoft has ensured that the Xbox One and Xbox One S games will be compatible with the new version.
What do you think of this possible price of Project Scorpio? Microsoft would not disclose any details about the cost of the console, Mike Ybarra, however, has reiterated that Scorpio is a platform designed for premium customers, designed for those who want more.
