Xbox Game Pass: Phil Spencer would also like to see new games in catalog

Phil Spencer was the special guest on the last podcast episode of Major Nelson, on this occasion the head of the Xbox division has talked about, among other things, also for Xbox Game Pass, the service announced earlier this week and which will be available in spring.

Spencer said he was pleased with the agreements made with publishers, but in the future would also like to see new titles on Xbox Game Pass: “One of the things that we didn’t talk about that I’d to take a second and talk about, because I think there’s an opportunity here for this to not just be about games that have already shipped. I’d actually like to see this grow to a program that you can see frontline games, first shipped games, come into Xbox Game Pass as something, as a way that they get distributed.”

“I’d love to see us be able to grow Game Pass to a program where maybe like episodic and smaller story based games could see this as a way that they actually launch because obviously there’s a business model behind Xbox Game Pass and I think it could really support that,” the executive stated.

Clearly, this is currently only a simple hypothesis, Xbox Game Pass will offer immediate access to over 100 titles of the Xbox One catalog, including Halo 5, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Halo Spartan Assault and Fable 3. During the podcast, Spencer then reiterated that he was satisfied with the line-up of Xbox One, Windows 10 and Scorpio for 2017, more details in this regard will be released at the upcoming E3 in Los Angeles.
