While the world is focused on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the soft reboot being worked on at Infinity Ward, Activision is already thinking about COD 2020 (let’s call it that for simplicity). We know, thanks to the usual highly informed Jason Schreier, that the title was under development under Sledgehammer Games (each of the three Activision teams “passes the baton” from year to year, so that each chapter has three years of development available). It would have been something related to Vietnam, but apparently, the jobs were so bad that Activision decided to put Treyarch, head of the Black Ops series, in command.
Now, we learn of a piece of information that seems to support this possibility: the Treyarch website has put online a job proposal for a Senior Tools Engineer, who would have had the task of creating tools for the team development engine. Nothing strange, you might think, except that one of the details mentioned was a “next-generation AAA title in 2020.” This last reference was eliminated, but not before the editors of CharlieINTEL had managed to see it and report it.
We must also consider the fact that next-generation consoles (PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, unofficial names) are planned for autumn 2020. Obviously, these are speculations added to rumors and leaks: there is nothing official. Nevertheless, COD 2020 seems to be emerging more and more: according to the rumors, what was realized by Sledgehammer will be reused to create a new game (Black Ops 5) and Treyarch will not try to “save” the original project.
Tell us, what do you think? For now, are you interested only in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, or is COD 2020 already in your thoughts?
