Tabata clarifies his comments on Final Fantasy XV for Switch
A few days ago, in gamescom 2017, Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV, left open the possibility of seeing the incredible RPG of Final Fantasy XV on Nintendo Switch. “everyone on the Final Fantasy XV team loves this console that has a name that sounds like Twitch, and they’re thinking about something for that right now,” he said. Recently, Tabata clarified his words.
During an interview with DualShockers, Tabata explained that so far they have decided nothing and that the development team is investigating all the specifications that can be provided to the Nintendo console.
However, he made it very clear that the Liminous Engine (the engine that drives the game on Xbox One and PS4) was already tested on Switch and realized that “they can not bring out the most of the engine” due to the limitations of the system.
Tabata made it clear that they have only done internal tests and that there is nothing clear at the moment. The team has still not optimized Liminous Engine for Switch, so there are still possibilities to see Final Fantasy XV on the hybrid console of the Big N. They also did tests on Unity and Unreal Engine 4 and realized that they run well on Switch.
So, Tabajta commented that they will continue to look for a way to take advantage of the capabilities of the platform, in the same way, they did with Final Fantasy XV for PC.
Another interesting point is that there is a certain probability of seeing Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition on Switch, but nothing is clear at the moment.
