God of War for PlayStation 4 is one of the most awaited titles by the industry and fans after all the series starring Kratos has accompanied us with excellent titles for 12 years and in 2018 we can venture into this new adventure in the Nordic regions. Recently Cory Barlog detailed some features of the new game of the franchise.

In an interview conducted by DailyStar, Cory Barlog, director of God of War, talked about various topics related to the new game in the series because although it will arrive until 2018, many want to know more about what awaits them.

Firstly Barlog revealed that the title reflects, in a way, his experience after leaving the series in God of War 2 and return in 2013 to begin with this new chapter because Kratos left Greece after the third title and was wandering around the world until establishing himself in a new site.

At the same time, the creative mentioned that the idea that Kratos had a child was present from the beginning: “When I was doing that with the team, we examined a lot of different avenues, I had thrown the idea of Kratos having a son early on and I think when it came down to it, every other idea seemed to be orbiting around that singular idea.”

Subsequently, Cory Barlog revealed some of the characteristics of Atreus, son of Kratos in God of War: “Atreus knows multiple languages in the game and for me that one aspect helped highlight the idea of a stranger in a strange land. Kratos has escaped a little bit of his past, but he is in this alien world and this kid is actually a necessity for him. He can’t understand some of the things people are saying, he can’t read writing on the wall, so to complete the goal they’ve set out to do, Kratos needs his son, just as much as his son needs him. It’s this symbiotic relationship and Atreus is the human side Kratos lost so long ago.”

Regarding the style of game and the use we give to Atreus, Barlog made mention of the game Dead to Rights – developed by Namco and available for PS2, Xbox GameCube and PC – around Shadow the dog that accompanies the protagonist Jack Slate, because he considered that the title showed perfectly how a companion system works in which you can support to achieve particular goals. In addition, the development team promised that Atreus is not a companion that hinders your adventure, and that he is not the reason you die constantly.

Finally, Barlog stated that with God of War and the new story of Kratos he could start a new series of games because the story arc gives the reason for many titles: “For me, I am just trying to get this game done. But I will say that when I chose this story, I had chosen it because I already outlined and mapped out stories for multiple games. I have an arc in my head that goes well beyond this game and everything that we are doing in God of War, to me, is very much building towards that.”

God of War will arrive on PlayStation 4 in 2018.
