Square Enix could give Legacy of Kain license to indie studios

The Legacy of Kain series could make a return to the gaming scene through independent studios, as Square Enix has recently been toying with the idea of licensing this franchise to external video game companies to carry out a project with them.

Square Enix would be giving away the brand to independent studios, similar to what it did with Fear Effect Sedna in the Square Enix Collective program.

Some will recall that the Legacy of Kain series had its biggest hits in the 1990s, and now Square Enix’s indie development director Phil Elliot opened that possibility in a message from his social networks, where he asked directly “what the interest in the Legacy of Kain IP would be if we made it available to indies to license?”.

In addition, Elliot referred to FearEffect, the other project in which Square Enix granted the license to an independent studio, which sought funding through the Kickstarter platform. The response of the public to the question of the director has been very positive.

Given his position, it does not seem that the question is casual, although at the moment there is no official announcement.

What is your opinion about it? Do you think it’s time for the return of Legacy of Kain? Be sure to tell us what you think in the comments section below.
