Sony Uncertain about Future of Sunset Overdrive on PlayStation Platforms

Gamescom 2019 started with everything and one of the surprises of the night was the revelation of the purchase of Insomniac Games by Sony, which makes the studio an exclusive entity for the consoles of the Japanese company. After the announcement, in addition to thinking about a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, some sectors turned to watch Sunset Overdrive, once exclusive to Xbox One, and the possibilities that it might or may not have now that Sony and Insomniac are working together. This was Shawn Layden’s answer about it.
During an interview conducted by The Hollywood Reporter with Shawn Layden, head of SIE studios worldwide, the manager was questioned around Sunset Overdrive now that Sony could do something with the franchise, as it was in the hands of Insomniac Games.
In that sense, the manager said they have not paid much attention to this franchise, since they are more focused on the work that Insomniac has presented with Ratchet & Clank, as well as Marvel’s Spider-Man: “That was a great experience for Insomniac and they learned a lot through that, as well. As far as the IP itself, we really haven’t turned over the files on that one to see what that actually means, to be honest. We like what they’ve been doing in the Spider-Man franchise and things like Ratchet & Clank are certainly vital series in the present and future. That’s what we’re concentrating on.”
So, although it is not a resounding refusal by Sony regarding Sunset Overdrive, the best thing for the moment will be not to throw the bells on the flight, or think about the arrival of the franchise to PlayStation, the same situation for a hypothetical sequel.
