Sony Confirms Sunset Overdrive Is Owned By PlayStation

1

One of the most talked-about news in recent months is that Sony acquired at Insomniac Games (Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank) to turn it into one of the studios of Sony Interactive Entertainment. So far everything is clear; however, there were doubts about what this meant for some of the company’s properties, especially Sunset Overdrive. Fortunately, Sony has already clarified the situation.

In a talk with the Japanese website Inside Games, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s global studios, revealed that Sony Interactive has the rights to all properties of Insomniac Games. This includes Sunset Overdrive, a franchise in which they worked as an exclusive for Xbox One that later arrived on PC.

“SIE holds the rights to past Insomniac Games works (…) I am looking forward to future titles,” were the words of Yoshida.

It is likely that Yoshida’s statements do not seem surprising. After all, Shawn Layden, head of SIE Worldwide Studios, had already understood that Sunset Overdrive was his property by commenting that they had no plans for this franchise and that they were going to focus on other things.

Sunset Overdrive is a game that debuted in 2014 as an exclusive for Xbox One. It is an action-adventure title that takes place in a city that was infested with mutants, so your mission will be to use your powers to eliminate them. Although it did not have a huge commercial success, it was a game well-received by critics and fans, who hoped it had a future.

And what about you, do you think Sunset Overdrive has a future in Sony’s hands? Tell us in the comments below.
