Sony: PS5 Aimed for Hardcore Gamers; Focus on Exclusive Games & Biggest Publishers

The next generation of consoles is already a reality and during the last months, there have been official announcements of both Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 (or PS5 or whatever the final name of the next console of Sony). Although we are still months away from an official presentation with specific specifications, the details are coming little by little and if a few days ago we knew the spectacular first performance test of the PS5 SoC, now we get details of Sony’s strategy with this console, which seems to point to the most hardcore players.

According to information from The Wall Street Journal, there has been a meeting focused on the strategy of the company where the chief executive of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida, has spoken of PlayStation 5 referring to it almost as a niche product. “Details when making games have become more important than ever,” explains Yoshida, referring to some features of PS5 such as compatibility with ray-tracing and a resolution of up to 8K.

With this, Yoshida seeks that the next console of Sony is focused for the most hardcore players, those who want to play video games that are graphically powerful. That is why, in addition to mounting a powerful hardware, Sony is focusing its attention on the largest publishers in the industry, looking for their works to appear on PlayStation 5.

“Sony still welcomes games from independent studios, the first Sony official said, but the emphasis is on strengthening relationships with large publishers since resources are limited,” they say from The Wall Street Journal. In addition, in this regard, Sony sees Microsoft as its main competitor and, perhaps, in the medium or long term, Google with its Google Stadia service.

To address all this, Yoshida has described the upcoming PlayStation as “dramatically increasing the graphics-rendering speed,” indicating that the change “clearly demonstrates why it makes sense to have a next-generation console.”

With all this, the outlook for the next generation of consoles is more than interesting, and is that both PS5 and Xbox Scarlett have a great power that will mean a really important leap forward against PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
