Sonic the Hedeghog Co-Creator Working on “Original Action Game” with Square Enix

Yuji Naka is one of the most important Japanese developers in the industry. The creative is known above all for being the co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog and for scheduling several installments of Phantasy Star.

It was at the beginning of 2018 that Naka took an important step in his career, since he started working at Square Enix. The good news is that he joined the development division of that studio, so he is working on a new game that he revealed nothing about.

Fortunately, Naka shared some information about his project today. Through his Twitter account, the creative thanked everyone on his 54th birthday. He also took the opportunity to reveal that he is working on an action game. Naka made it clear that it is an original project, so everything indicates that it will not be based on any known franchise.

“Thank you for your birthday message. Today I’m 54 years old. How many games will I be able to make by the retirement age, including the original action game that I’m currently making at Square Enix? I’d like to work hard to develop a game that everyone around the world can enjoy,” wrote the creative.

In addition to all the important work he did with Sonic Team, Naka is also known for Prope, an independent development studio that has worked on several projects for consoles such as Wii, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 3DS, as well as mobile devices.

Naka has not given more details about his current game, so we may have to wait several months to learn more about it, such as details of its gameplay, general concept and its launch systems.
