Shenmue 3 Refunds Will Be Given To Backers

Epic Games Store, as we all know, is focusing on timed-only exclusives and, from month to month, has attracted many great titles like Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3 and Shenmue 3. The latter, in particular, has created quite a stir since the supporters of the Kickstarter campaign (which have practically already paid for the game) will not be able to receive the promised Steam copy.

Furthermore, it was initially stated that reimbursements would not be guaranteed. Now, however, developers and publishers have retracted; here is the official declaration of YS Net: “Along with Deep Silver and Epic Games, we have agreed that should the above proposal not be acceptable to backers, refund requests will be honored. Details concerning the refund request process will be announced in a following update. We ask for your patience until that time.”

In practice, Shenmue 3 supporters will be able to choose between four options:

  • PC Version Physical: Epic Games Store disk game + digital key
  • PC Version Digital: Digital key of the Epic Games Store
  • PS4 Version Physical: Game on disk
  • PS4 Digital Version: Code for PSN

If none of these options is to your liking you can request a refund; in some cases, however, it will not be possible to request a full refund, for example in the event that in-game rewards included in-game content already created and implemented in the game were included.

Beyond some potential limitations, we can say that the issue ended positively. Players are now free to choose which version to play and, if necessary, request a fair refund.
