Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has started 2019 with excellent news because, in addition to boasting the lineup of titles, exclusive and third-party, that will grace the last stage of PS4, a few moments ago the company revealed that its successful console already exceeded 90 million units sold, confirming that the rumors about its excellent sales in recent weeks were true.
A few moments ago, the SIE corporate site revealed data corresponding to the performance of PS4 in the market and the sale of games during the 2018 holiday season. According to the data provided by the electronic entertainment division of Sony, PS4 already sold 91.6 million units until December 31, 2018, an amount that was reached thanks to the 5.6 million of consoles that were sold during the holiday season that just ended, which is counted from November 19 to December 31 of last year.
After confirming the impressive sales, Jhon Kodera, president and general manager of SIE, said: “Thanks to the continued support from our fans during the holiday season, we are pleased to announce that PS4 has reached 91.6 million units globally.”
Also, the executive thanked the players and partners of the brand for being the most important part of the achievements that the console has reached after its debut in 2013 and hinted that the most anticipated titles will come this year to PS4: “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our passionate community around the globe, and our partners, for helping us achieve these milestones. This year, we will bring more enhanced experiences to our fans along with a highly anticipated lineup of games that are only possible on PS4. As we look toward the next PS4 milestone, SIE will continue to evolve, and we will further expand the platform to deliver the best interactive entertainment experiences to the world.”
The festive environment of SIE for the big sales of PS4 grew after the revelation that Marvel’s Spider-Man, one of the most important exclusives of 2018, already sold more than 9 million copies according to data obtained by sales in physical format, as well as in PS Store, same that were recorded from September 7 to November 25 of last year.
