As happened for other major companies, Sony also unveils its financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year and for worldwide sales of PS4, we are talking about the period between October 1 and December 31, 2017.
Sony Corporation released the financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, relating to the period between October 1 and December 31, 2017. The numbers of the Games & Network Services division are positive, including the PS4 brand.
During the indicated time frame, Sony has distributed 9 million PS4 and PS4 Pro worldwide, to date the console has reached 76.5 million units distributed since the launch, as of December 31, 2017. The actually consoles sold should be instead 73.6 million.
Although distributed units fell by 700,000 compared to last year, earnings grew 16.2% thanks to increased software sales and revenues from digital services such as PlayStation Store, PlayStation Now, and PlayStation Plus.
From the financial report also comes the announcement that the current CEO of Sony, Kazuo Hirai, will leave his post on April 1, 2018 (coinciding with the beginning of the fiscal year). The current Chief Financial Officer Kenichiro Yoshida will succeed him even if Hirai will remain as president to facilitate the smooth transition.
