Overwatch creators are ‘extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor’
It’s no secret that Blizzard is working to get Overwatch to get new characters, scenarios and features, but how about a map editor? If you are a fan who is waiting for this option, you will be glad to know that it is among the company’s plans, but we still have some time to see it.
According to Jeff Kaplan, director of Overwatch, on the official forums of the game, the map editor is one of his long-term goals. The reason this content will take time to come is because Overwatch was made with a completely new engine, so creating the tool is not as easy as making a simple additional content.
“We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon,” he said. “We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.”
Speaking of Overwatch, its new character, Orisa, will hit consoles and PCs in the next few hours. On the other hand, Blizzard is preparing several adjustments to reduce the chances that a competitive encounter ends in a tie.
Overwatch is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
