It’s a fact that Nintendo Switch is selling like hot cakes; however, there are still many doubts about how much longer it can continue with this pace. According to analysts, Nintendo has reason to be optimistic, since Switch’s initial sales have the potential to surpass Wii’s.
In a publication in ResetEra, Mat Piscatella, an analyst at the NPD Group, commented that the pace of sales in the first 10 months of Switch is on track to exceed Wii sales by 20% at the same time. An interesting detail is that the analyst believes that it is a console that has attracted the attention of dedicated players. In addition, he stressed that in some households people have bought more than one Switch units.
“Switch is on pace to exceed Wii by 20%+ over the first 10 months of sales. The thing is though, the Switch, from a demographic and usage basis, is nothing like the Wii. It’s much more a core gamer console than anything Nintendo has done since maybe NGC? And because it’s a hybrid, multi console ownership per household could be a thing, making upside potential bigger than the Wii,” he said.
Later, Piscatella mentioned that Nintendo Switch could surpass the pace of Wii sales if the new title of Pokémon arrives before the end of 2018: “If Pokémon debuts next year I can easily see Switch overcoming the Wii rhyme and taking 40% of the Next year’s sales market.”
Keep in mind that Piscatella is not the first analyst to declare something similar. Last week Morningstar, pointed out that Switch could reach the sales of the seventh generation console. For its part, a GameStop executive mentioned that the demand for the hybrid console is “similar or superior” to that which was on the Wii.
