NPD Analyst: PS5 and Next Xbox Announcements in 2019 for 2020 Launches

For analysts, 2019 will be the year in which Sony and Microsoft will reveal the successors of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and although there is nothing official from both companies yet, the expectation is that in the coming months more details will be revealed on what we know today as PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Project Scarlett (Next Xbox). Also, this has led to the development of different forecasts and recently Mat Piscatella spoke about it.
During an interview with Gamingbolt, Mat Piscatella, NPD Group analyst, revealed his forecast regarding the announcement and launch of the next PlayStation (PS5) and Xbox.
In that sense, Piscatella mentioned that his expectation is that this year the new hardware of the gaming divisions of Sony and Microsoft will be revealed, preparing everything for its launch next year: “I’m forecasting announcements in 2019 for 2020 launches for both PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox. However, I do think we’ve moved past the traditional generational model. I expect both manufacturers to add features that will further blur these lines.”
On the other hand, the NPD Group analyst considered that the announcements and upcoming releases of the new consoles will impact the sales of PS4 and Xbox One as 2019 will be a year of transition: “I forecast both PS4 and Xbox One hardware unit sales to decline in the single-digit percentages next year, but more because we’re nearing the latter stages of the cycle, and I don’t anticipate either making drastic moves on price. Both systems have done well in the US, but 2019 will likely be a transition year as we move into 2020.”
