Like every month, NPD Group is the analysis firm in charge of revealing the sales performance of hardware, software and accessories in the United States and a few moments ago released the information corresponding to last April, which highlights the dominance of PlayStation 4 in the North American market, which in that month reached important records.
Mat Piscatella, NPD Group analyst, presented the sales report in the USA and in hardware, there is very important information. Initially, the analyst reported that the industry’s total sales in the country during April increased 18% with respect to the same month in 2017, which translates into sales of $823 million.
In terms of consoles, there is very good news as the performance in the market reported a growth of 15% compared to April 2017 and in that specific item, sales were registered for $225 million.
Now, as has happened for a long time, PS4 remained the best-selling console in April in the US and remains in first place as the best-selling console of the year, but the news on this occasion is that it was so successful that it became the piece of hardware with the highest number of units sold in April reaching the levels recorded by Nintendo Wii in the same month but in 2009. In addition, in terms of sales in dollars, PS4 matched the record that the Nintendo console had in April 2008.
As expected, the success of PS4 in April was driven by the release of God of War, as the limited edition of 1TB PS4 Pro bundle was the piece of hardware that registered the highest dollar sales during April.
