At the recent PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco, Sony Computer Entertainment America and KOEI TECMO announced NiOh, an Action/RPG game centered on a samurai, that would be available in the West, exclusive only for PlayStation 4. NIOH was developed under the aegis of Kou Shibusawa, Hisashi Koinuma and Team NINJA.
Originally announced in 2004 by the publisher Koei Tecmo, NIOH remained in doubt for several years. The title marked its return in September 2015 with a first gameplay trailer released in the Tokyo Game Show 2015.
The title, now exclusive to the PS4, is being developed within the studio of Team Ninja. The new video broadcast by Japanese publisher clearly confirms the connection with the license of Onimusha from Capcom, both in terms of its atmosphere and gameplay.
Koei Tecmo also took the opportunity to confirm that NIOH will be marketed in the United States and Europe, without giving its exact release date. The title, however, is due for release in 2016 on PS4. Watch the trailer below:
About the Game:
“In Nioh, players will traverse war-torn Japan as William, a blonde-haired swordsman whose background as a fierce warrior and seasoned knowledge of the blade allows him to survive in the demon-plagued land of the samurai. Known as Yokai, these demons inhabit a number of dangerous locations and lie in wait in the shadows to ambush unsuspecting victims. Players will also face off with other samurai in supernatural sword battles and intense, multi-target engagements offering a level of difficulty that will truly test even the most hardened samurai’s skills, patience, and strategy.
Offering a deep and original storyline that takes place during the Warring States Period of Japanese history alongside strategic sword-fighting action, Nioh will challenge players in a way that makes every mission and accomplishment feel earned and worthwhile.”
