Nintendo Will Update Original Switch with New CPU and Storage
As you probably know, Nintendo confirmed that it will launch a new version of Switch called Nintendo Switch Lite. That said, it seems that this is not the only hardware that the company is preparing since new information suggests that it is preparing important changes for the Original Switch, its hybrid console.
As reported by The Verge, documents from the Federal Communications Commission of the United States (FCC) indicate that Nintendo registered a Class 2 permit change. It is a request to make changes to an existing product that can be re-certified for its sale in the United States.
In the document, Nintendo says it will make 3 changes to the original Switch model:
- Processor change
- NAND type memory change
- Changing the CPU board due to previous modifications
Due to this information, many believe that Nintendo is planning to change the original Switch model and sell it with a new processor and more storage. That said, the registry does not specify this information, so it should be considered as a simple rumor.
Now, it is important to reiterate that this information refers to the change of a current model and not to a possible Nintendo Switch Pro. Therefore, if these changes are carried out, it is likely that they will never be announced officially.
