Nintendo talks about The Legend of Zelda in Virtual Reality
Although it seems that much is needed for us to see the virtual reality in the world of Nintendo, the company is already working on it. If you think this means that someday you could explore the world like Zelda: Breath of the Wild in VR, we have some bad news for you, since that possibility seems difficult.
We say this because Eiji Aonuma, producer of Nintendo, commented in an interview with GameReactor who tried to explore scenes in the first person for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but he did not like the result. With this in mind, the producer had a hard time imagining the franchise in this type of devices.
“When we did Twilight Princess, we did first-person trials. And I absolutely did not like it, it did not look like Zelda as I conceived it, nor as you must conceive it yourself as a fan of the saga. And from that point on, we thought we had to be able to see Link, whether it was during the fighting or the exploration. For us, this is the very essence of Zelda. For the moment I have a hard time imagining a Zelda in VR so as you can probably imagine, this is not a priority nor a short-term project. But I’m not closing the door on that for the future,” Aonuma said.
Thus, although the producer did not completely rule out the possibility of it happening, the fact that it costs him to imagine and that it is not their priority, makes it clear that several things must happen before Nintendo starts working on it.
Do you think Zelda has the potential to work in virtual reality or is it better to stand as a third-person adventure? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Nintendo Switch and Wii.
