Nintendo Switch VR Headset Patent Filed
Nintendo is looking to continue to invest heavily on its latest gaming console, according to a recently registered patent application that indicates that a Nintendo Switch VR headset may be on the way.
Nintendo’s focus on its latest generation gaming console, Switch, does not seem to diminish. A recently registered Nintendo patent application suggests that the company may be preparing to launch a dedicated VR headset for its gaming console.
It was Let’s Go Digital’s website that first discovered Nintendo’s patent application, which was registered in the latter half of August. The application shows not only the design of the product but also how it is intended to work.
According to the image shown above, Nintendo Switch VR would work as if the portable portion of the game console is attached to the VR headset and then held up to the face. The pictures do not show any kind of headband for the headset, but it appears to be the game console’s hand controls which become the handle of the device. Thus, there appears to be no support for the headset when the console is used in its stationary position. However, this is something that might be changed once the launch is done.
At the time of writing, Nintendo has made no official disclosure regarding this Switch VR headset. Thus, there is not much concrete information about whether the console will receive a wider VR support or if, for example, it becomes an accessory to the existing Labo products or the like.
