Nintendo Switch Surpasses PS4 Sales in Japan

0 305

According to Media Create, sales of Nintendo Switch in Japan have exceeded those of PS4, but be careful, because the data does not consider PS4 Pro.

Media Create announced that sales of Nintendo Switch in Japan exceeded those of PS4. In short, this is an excellent result for the hybrid console of Nintendo, considering that PS4 has been around since 2014, while Switch has been running for less than two years.

The data provided, however, must be elaborated, because overtaking refers to sales of standard PS4 models added to those of PS4 Slim. In short, PS4 Pro is considered separately. Adding sales of PS4 Pro to the other PS4s, Switch would still not have passed the Sony console.

Clarifying the point to avoid controversy, let’s see some numbers. Switch has sold a total of 6.67 million units in Japan, while PS4 and PS4 Slim are still at 6.54 million units. In short, Switch is ahead with 130,000 units and, given the trend of the Japanese market, the Sony console is unlikely to be able to recover (indeed, the gap is bound to widen).

Without major surprises, the overtaking came after the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is having a huge success in Japan.

January will be an important month for both consoles, with PS4 that will see the launch of Resident Evil 2 Remake and for Switch it will be the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
