In an interview with VICE Waypoint, Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that Nintendo is considering carefully any other Wii U games to bring on Switch, although decisions have not yet been taken at this time.
It seems that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokkén Tournament DX will not be the latest titles from Wii U to land with an updated version on Switch; airing this option is the same as Nintendo of America, through the words given to Waypoint by President Reggie Fils-Aime.
Fils-Aime acknowledges that the limited success of Wii U, especially comparing the numbers that made a record for the console with the previous Wii, did not allow many users to play some excellent titles on the system. This then creates an opportunity for Nintendo, which is, however, keen to embellish the titles in question with new content, giving players a reason to buy.
Reggie does not want to hide how the commercial failure of Wii U has actually penalized some games, which could come back to life on Switch with technically up-to-date re-releases and content updates, as happened in the case of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokkén Tournament DX.
So this is not a way to enrich the lineup of Switch with minimal effort, the goal of Nintendo is simply to provide entertaining titles to players, independent of whether it is original or remastered products of existing games.
Reggie finally ends with telling that “I can tell you there’s more to be announced” by moving the issue no longer on the “if” but on the “when.”
