NieR Automata Exceeds 2.5 Million Copies Sold Worldwide

A new milestone for the game.

NieR: Automata

NieR Automata was launched on March 10, 2017, and was the first joint effort between Square Enix and Platinum Games, which was far from imagining that a niche title could sell more than 1 million.

With a message posted on Twitter, Square-Enix Japan announced that NieR Automata has reached 2.5 million copies distributed since its launch in March 2017. The latest data indicates that more than 900,000 units have been sold on Steam, but Square Enix has not provided specific data for platform sales.

The data includes both retail copies distributed worldwide and digital downloads from the PlayStation Store and Steam. These numbers are much higher than the expectations of the publisher and developers of Platinum Games, who expected to get to sell just under one million copies of NieR Automata.

To celebrate the first birthday of the game, until tomorrow (Wednesday, March 14) NieR Automata is on sale on Steam at $29.99 instead of $59.99, discounted price of 50% still available for a few hours now.

The announcement comes from the Japanese Twitter account of the game (as seen below), which celebrates with a new image depicting the protagonist, the bandaged android 2B.

NieR: Automata is available on PC and PlayStation 4.
