New Need for Speed Countdown Tease Begins, Reveal in 2 Days on August 14
On August 14 we will know the first details of the new Need for Speed. Electronic Arts has updated the official website of the game showing a countdown, which ends on August 14.
This new Need for Speed will be released this year, the publisher confirmed in May. In 2019 the saga will celebrate its 25th anniversary. On that occasion, and referring to the absence of the game at E3 2019, they explained that their “goal is to deliver a truly memorable high-speed entry into the 25 years of NFS, rather than a series of promotional events. The game matters most – a sentiment we bet you share with us.”
Ben Walke, of DICE, commented that for the saga, “cars naturally top the list. You could say that the cars and customization of NFS are the beating heart of what we do.”
However, he suggested that there will be things that will change: “You could say this essence is our DNA, and it’s exactly what we’re injecting straight into our next project. Tradition, and our above note about a new game later this year, dictates that this is the time when you’ll be eagerly hitting F5 on our Social Media channels, waiting for that first detailed sign of something new, for that first teaser to drop. But let’s hold fire on that for now. Because traditions are all well and good, but they can also be broken, and new ones forged.”
In late July, the Australian Gameware store leaked Need for Speed Heat, which is what this title could be called. The McLaren P1 was shown on the cover.
Electronic Arts will attend Gamescom 2019, so we are likely to see the new Need for Speed there, and perhaps also another project that did not lead to E3 2019: Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.
The last installment of the saga, Need for Speed: Payback, had a mixed critic and public reception.
