Naughty Dog Explains Why The Last of Us 2 Development Took So Much Time
At last, we came to know that The Last of Us 2 will be released on February 21, 2020 on PlayStation 4. Naughty Dog has wanted to simmer this long-awaited sequel, and Neil Druckmann, director of the game, has explained the reasons now.
“We didn’t set out to make the biggest game we’ve ever done, we set out to tell this really ambitious story that became the biggest game we’ve ever done,” Druckmann said in an interview with IGN. “And that’s why we took as long as we have.”
“The story we laid out four years ago is really complex, has a large cast of characters. The core of it is simple, but where it goes and the twist and turns are complex,” continues Druckmann. “We needed more time for cinematics, we needed more locations, we needed more types of enemies. So the scope of it kept growing.”
However, Druckmann wants to reassure the players : although The Last of Us Part II is the biggest game the studio has done, he wants to point out that it offers the same rhythm as the first game: “You’re going on this crazy, emotional, harrowing roller coaster ride that has these highs of tension and these slower, more provocative, thoughtful moments…those kind of events are sprinkled throughout the entire game,” Druckmann said.
Recall that The Last of Us 2 will release on February 21, 2020 on PS4.
