Miyamoto: I Always Look for Designers Who Aren’t Super-Passionate Game Fans

Miyamoto said that being a passionate player is not enough to be part of its team.

Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma are just some of the most recognized developers of Nintendo. They have worked for years in the company; however, the time will come to pass the work to a new generation. Previously, the creatives talked about the preparation their successors received.

During a recent meeting with The New York Times, Miyamoto spoke again on the subject. The popular member of Nintendo said that the new generations are important for the company, so part of them is the current focus of attention. The training they received will ensure that they can remain in the company and that their work is recognized in the industry in general.

However, Miyamoto made it clear that it is not enough to be a passionate player to be among the ranks of Nintendo. The creative said he seeks “designers who aren’t super-passionate game fans. I make it a point to ensure they’re not just a gamer, but that they have a lot of different interests and skill sets.”

For his part, Shinya Takahashi, the general manager of the planning division of Nintendo, said that the death of Satoru Iwata was a blow to the teams of the company. However, “it came at a time when new leaders were rising in the company,” Takahashi said.

For his part, Kosuke Yabuki, one of the young developers of Nintendo, said they will keep everything that makes the company great. “Our mission remains the same: to find unique ways to explore play. The difference is that, perhaps, now is our time,” said Yabuki.

Finally, Miyamoto said that the new generations have a more active participation in the projects: “More and more I am trying to let the younger generation fully take the reins,” concluded the creative.

Apparently, the new generations are doing their job well. What we are referring to is that a group of young people was in charge of the development of Nintendo Switch. The console already sold 10 million units worldwide. Nintendo seeks to double that amount for the next fiscal year.
