Microsoft has “No Plans” to Bring More Xbox Exclusives on PS4 or Nintendo Switch

Microsoft has made it clear that it will not launch more exclusives on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Therefore, the arrival of Ori and the Blind Forest to Nintendo’s hybrid console will be the last case which we will see. Other cases we have seen are those of Cuphead and Minecraft, which also reached other platforms.

In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft argued the following: “The past year has been an exciting time for us as we have more than doubled the internal creative teams making up Xbox Game Studios,” the company stated. “As these new studios transitioned in, we were aware of some existing commitments to other platforms and will honor them. However, going forward these new studios will focus on making games for our platforms. We have no plans to further expand our exclusive first party games to other consoles. We continue to believe deeply in cross play and progression of games with the right flexibility for developers to insure a fair and fun experience.”

This news reminds us of a strategy that may seem totally contrary, although we have to keep in mind that Microsoft already has the PC platform. The title of Ori and the Blind Forest for Switch was leaked in the hours prior to the Gamescom event but was officially confirmed in the event. In addition, it has been presented with a new trailer that you can see below.

Remember that the launch of Ori and the Blind Forest for Nintendo Switch is set for September 27.
