Microsoft releases new Xbox One Preview Update adding backward compatible games

The news had been expected for several days, but a post published today in the official support forum of Xbox clears the field from any doubt about it: playing Xbox 360 titles on Xbox One becomes even more easier, thanks to the ability to detect them in the Store with the latest version of Microsoft’s gaming console.

The novelty is documented in details in the changelog of the new software released “th2_xb_rel_1603.160304-1900” for members of the Preview program that allows them to try out new versions of the dashboard of Xbox One. The Xbox 360 games will be thus viewed and purchased through the Game Hub and the activity feed.

Currently, the Xbox One console provides the ability to download backward compatible games already associated to your Microsoft account used on the Xbox 360 or use the physical media to install the title on the console, but it does not offer the option to proceed directly to the purchase/installation of the digital version with a backward compatible title not used previously. The novelty just described will be activated via the update available starting at 1:00AM GMT on 8 March.

Good news, then, for users who are part of the Preview program, even if, at the time, there is lack of more detailed information for those who use a non Preview version of the dashboard. It is not possible to determine how long it will take to exploit a feature that will undoubtedly be appreciated by users of Xbox One who continue to watch with interest the previous generation of games.

The novelty concerning the Xbox 360 backward compatible games is undoubtedly the most significant of the new “Preview” update with the dashboard of Xbox One, but not the only one. The changelog does in fact refer to the correction of a problem related to the Green Screen that appears when you use certain video applications and the black screen that may occur during the use of games, apps, or when you visit the various sections of the dashboard.

Checkout the official changelog below:

1. Green Screen issues when watching Video: Fixed an issue which green screens could appear in some video applications.
2. Intermittent flickering Black screens: Fixed an issue in which black screens would appear, in games, apps or when navigating the dashboard

New Features in this Build:

1. Purchase Xbox 360 Backward compatible games: Games today will be discover-able via Game hubs and Activity feed and over the next 24 hours the Store programming will be live for a full end to end purchasing experience.
2. The Achievements snap app is no longer in the build – please use the guide experience to view your achievement’s progress.
