Report: Microsoft Acquires Relic Entertainment
A new team could soon be added to the list of members of Xbox Game Studios: according to insiders Klobrille and Rebecca Smith of TrueAchievements, Microsoft may have acquired Relic Entertainment, a studio known for its experience with strategy games and currently working on Age of Empires 4.
It seems that the wave of acquisitions by Microsoft has no intention to stop: to suggest it is a new rumor, according to which the Redmond giant would have completed the purchase of Relic Entertainment, the software house famous for its work on Age of Empires.
According to the rumors, the official announcement of the acquisition should take place at the beginning of March in the next installment of Inside Xbox, in which we will see the presence of Relic with “some very exciting announcements,” probably the latter are linked to Age of Empires 4 or to the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires 2 and 3 but it is not to be excluded that the announcement of the acquisition, given by the insiders mentioned above, can also take place here.
Relic Entertainment is known for titles such as Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War III, Company of Heroes 2, The Outfit, Homeworld 2, Impossible Creatures and Homeworld, to name a few. We look forward to any comments from those directly affected.
