Metro 2033 Will Be Adapted As a Film, Releases in 2022
In 2022, a live-action film based on Metro 2033 , the famous saga of novels by Dmitrij Gluchovskij, will arrive in theaters which gave rise to an equally popular video game series culminating a few months ago with Metro Exodus.
The Russian writer Dmitri Glujovski announced today that a film based on his successful science fiction novel Metro 2033 will be released on January 1, 2022. A character in a gas mask of the saga is the image that the author posted on his Instagram profile to announce the premiere date.
Metro 2033, Metro 2034 and Metro 2035 have been translated into numerous languages, and have been adapted to the field of video games, the last of which came out this year was Metro Exodus.
The story told in the novel describes after a global nuclear holocaust in which its inhabitants organize and fight to survive in the tunnels and stations of the Moscow metro.
Previously there was already an attempt to bring the saga to the cinema but Glujovski criticized that the project was tried to “Americanize” when Moscow was wanted to be changed to Washington and some elements of history that Glujovski considered important were eliminated, and the writer chose to recover the cinematographic rights of his books.
The book originally saw the light in 2002 on the author’s website, and it was not until 2005 that the paper version was published. Right now the author is releasing an interview to this address (obviously in Russian), explaining that the film might not even cross Russian borders to get to the West; despite the franchise’s popularity it has also reached the Hollywood offices, as demonstrated by the failed attempt to make an adaptation only a few years ago.
