The Metal Gear franchise is undoubtedly one of the most recognized and loved in the industry. Last year they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the series, which began in 1987.

Although Metal Gear has had some ups and downs, it has remained in the taste of the players throughout the decades. By July 2016, the series had already sold 49.2 million copies worldwide.

Its success has not stopped despite the passage of time. A new report, via Metal Gear Informer site, points out that the franchise has already sold 53.8 million copies worldwide.

This figure includes sales until March of this year. We must remember that for 2017 its sales amounted to 51.3 million units. Thus, the franchise sold 2.5 million copies more than the previous year.

The Metal Gear Survive spin-off was the last thing we had in the series. However, we do not know all the details of its performance in the market. In its latest financial report, Konami did not disclose sales or income information of such title.

So, we do not know how much Metal Gear Survive contributed to generate 2.5 million units sold during the last year. However, it is good to know that the series is still giving something to talk about commercially.

The Japanese will celebrate the franchise with a special symphonic concert, which will interpret the most emblematic themes of its various title. On the other hand, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is in charge of the film based on Metal Gear.

Dark Horse recently launched The Art of Metal Gear Solid I-IV in the West, a set of books with about 800 pages of art and illustrations by various artists. Lastly, we remind you that you can now download MGSV: The Phantom Pain if you are an Xbox LIVE Gold user.
