Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Guide: Helpful Strategies and Tips to Win Races

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch, this guide will give you some useful tips that will help you to win every race and win all the trophies. Below, you can check out all the tips and strategies of MK8 Deluxe.
Take the burst at start
By taking a burst at the start, you can get better times and increase your chances of winning a race. This technique requires perfect timing and a discrete coordination to be applied to the fullest, so you need to work out in time-trials before taking part in a new competition. To exploit the burst at every start you will have to wait until the ignition of the second red light on the traffic light and immediately press the accelerator, releasing it only after the start. Otherwise, the engine of your kart will overheat and you will get the opposite effect to that desired, so you’ll have to wait a few seconds before you can leave.
Study the tracks
If you want to beat your friends on the leaderboards and win, you will have to carefully study individual tracks. In this way you can learn the right rhythm to follow during the races and time trials, getting to grips with curves. We may also want to compete with Nintendo staff ghosts, thus improving your statistics. Finally you can challenge your ghost in the timed trials, keeping track of your progress and analyzing in detail your mistakes.
Take the trail of the opponents
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe allows you to exploit the trail of the opponents and earn a small speed boost that, if used properly, will allow you to overtake those in front. Try therefore to follow the trajectory of the rivals and overcome them in the vicinity of a curve, so as to secure your position.
Master the curves
When you face a curve, keep as close to the inside as possible, avoiding finishing on the grass or off track. So you can gain precious tenths of seconds that, after the race, often make the difference. If the curve is particularly tight, first extend to the outer edge, so as to obtain the necessary space to deal with it.
Learn skidding
Skidding allows you to face a curve without slowing the vehicle, thus making you earn a potential margin of detachment by opponents. To make a drift, you will have to counter-steer when you see the blue sparks arising from the wheels of your kart. You will have to thus direct the fireball in the opposite direction compared to the initial trajectory, obviously using the controls of your console. In this way you will also get a slight increase in speed, to be exploited to overtake rivals and recover precious tenths of a second.
Beware of shortcuts
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has several alternative routes that often allow you to gain valuable seconds and easily pass your rivals. However, some shortcuts have grassy traits that will greatly slow you down, putting in serious trouble. You then need to better manage your bonuses and use the turbo to easily circumvent these drawbacks.
Use the objects at the right time
Avoid throwing shells and bananas in a casual manner, otherwise they will be wasted. Try instead to cut the road to an opponent and place the item accordingly, in order to derive maximum benefit. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also includes two new items, ie the Boo Ghost and Feather. The first one can subtract the most interesting item of their opponents, while the second one allows to hover in the air for a limited period of time, avoiding obstacles and traps scattered along the route.
Collect the coins
To unlock new race cars, mechanical parts and cosmetic changes should be applied to your kart, you will need to collect a large number of coins. Each component will be unlocked at intervals of 50 coins, then moved at intervals of 100 after passing the 1,000 coins collected. These can of course be collected in any game mode and will increase your speed for a few moments, giving you a major advantage over your rivals.
The acrobatics make you gain speed
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe allows you to perform mid-air stunts and gain speed for a few seconds. To start a stunt you will have to press the R button just before you jump in the air, paying close attention to the timing with which you will execute the action. Press the button at the wrong time and it will make you lose grip and therefore slow down your pace.
