Square Enix announced that the first episode of the award-winning – and also controversial – Life is Strange can be downloaded for free from July 21 on all platforms where it is available.

This episode carries by the title of Chrysalis and will be available at no cost for users of PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC from tomorrow, July 21.

“Although our team set out to create an award-winning narrative we still cannot believe the response we’ve had from players of Life is Strange” said Dontnod chief executive Oskar Guilbert.

“By making the first episode of Life is Strange free, we’re really excited to welcome new players to the world of Arcadia Bay and our passionate, vibrant community” said meanwhile one of the vice president of European marketing of Sony, Jon Brooke.

Life is Strange tells the story of Max Caulfield, a photographer who discovers she has the power to go back in time to save her best friend Chloe Price. The duo, which generated a lot of empathy between players, then begins to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Rachel Amber and discovers that there is much more than it seems behind Arcadia Bay.

The game of Dontnod Entertainment received the award for Best Story of BAFTA Games Awards and the title of Best Performance of Golden Joystick as well as being nominated 75 times the Best Game of the Year awards.
