On the occasion of the launch of RAGE 2, id Software takes stock of the work done by Avalanche Studios with this release, a title that they hope will be able to settle in the community of players of the saga and new fans to this post-apocalyptic setting. The future, for them, is welcome with a hypothetical RAGE 3.
The director of the studio, Tim Willits, explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter how they chose Avalanche to take care of this title, as well as not hiding their desire to do “as soon as possible” the aforementioned RAGE 3. Between the first and second title, eight years were spent, something that seems now too long for the next, according to his words.
“We liked their Just Cause games and when they became available, they were looking for projects to work on,” he says. “They could have done anything, but they were big fans of the franchise and id and Bethesda. I make a joke that we were at a bar and one person looked at another person and fell in love. It’s been a ton of fun working with Avalanche. They share a lot of the same philosophy on game design,” he continues.
Regarding future titles “I hope so. Yes, is the answer to that question. We’ve always loved this franchise because it’s such a fun setting. We can do what we want. We were once talking about riding on giant cockroaches. What other game can you have a conversation where that’s a legitimate conversation you can have?! It’s a crazy, fun, exciting franchise and I hope we can make a third one as soon as possible,” he concluded.
Rage 2 is a game that cannot stand out. Its combat is solid and the feeling of increasing in power throughout the experience works really well, but that’s where its great virtues remain.
Rage 2 already available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
