Hitman studio IO Interactive confirms layoffs

IO Interactive has laid off an unspecified number of employees. The studio is currently undergoing big changes, and therefore staff reductions were necessary in order to continue to operate in this business while reducing operating costs.


IO Interactive has announced a downsizing of its staff. The software company has announced the changes launched by a note via Twitter.

Today at IOI, we had to make some changes to our studio, which will allow us to better equipped for out future adventures,” reads the message spread through social networks. “We are sad that great talent and good friends will be leaving the studio.”

The future of IO Interactive is not yet entirely clear, Square-Enix has started the procedure for selling the company on 31st March, to date we do not know if a buyer has been found or whether the Danish studio will become independent, hence the desire to prepare for a reduction in costs.

It is not yet clear whether this reduction will serve to facilitate the sale of the studio. Sale is at present still seems to be ongoing, although names of companies and investors were not disclosed by Square-Enix.

The future of Hitman seems to be uncertain and there are no details about the second season of the game, which seems to be under development for many months. According to some rumors, the franchise of Hitman would be owned by IO Interactive and not the publisher Square Enix.
