Has GTA 6 Been Delayed and Will Only Release on PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett?

GTA 6 is one of the most talked-about games in a long time. Although nothing is official, rumor or speculation has yet been revealed, there is a talk about the biggest maps, the possible release and the platforms on which we will be able to play the new title of Rockstar Games. What is more dumbfounded is the fact that a long time has passed since the previous chapter: a Twitter user then tried to think about the issue.

To begin with, we must note that five years and nine months have already passed since the launch of the fifth chapter of the series. This is the largest amount of time between one GTA and the next, and clearly, it is destined to increase, given that GTA 6 has not even been announced yet. The motivation behind this delay can be twofold: to start, after Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games has dedicated itself to Red Dead Redemption 2, which has required a lot of resources; in addition, we must consider the GTA Online factor.

The multiplayer component of GTA 5 is one of the biggest successes of the company and after a long time, it shows no signs of losing its leadership. Rockstar Games earns a lot from GTA Online, thanks to expansions and, above all, to microtransactions. Moreover, the company is now trying to repeat this success with Red Dead Online.

Given that GTA 6 will exist, it is more than possible that its release has been delayed without particular concern by Rockstar Games, given the focus on the online modes of its two biggest franchises of the moment. Considering that the end of the generation is approaching, it wouldn’t even be too strange if developers had directly decided to move the whole project on PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett, with a release date set in 2021/2022.

Obviously, these are just speculations and Rockstar Games may surprise us at any moment, but it is objective that the announcement times are going long. Whether the “blame” is GTA Online or not, fans are eager to find out what’s cooking at Rockstar’s development studios, even considering the recent rumors of Bully 2.
