Activision has reached the first and second position in the ranking of the best-selling console video games in North America this year (according to sales figures). In the first place, we find Call of Duty WWII, which has already surpassed 1 billion dollars in world sales since the launch last month, thus allowing Call of Duty to reconfirm itself as the best-selling franchise in North America for the ninth year in a row, according to the data collected.
Developed by Bungie, Destiny 2 has secured second place in North America’s best-selling console video games this year, according to the collection figures, also revealing the largest PC launch in the history of Activision Publishing, for the number of copies sold. Furthermore, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is the best-selling remastered collection in the history of PS4.
“Call of Duty: WWII is the #1 top grossing console game of the year in North America, and Destiny 2 is #2,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision in a press release. “That means Call of Duty has been the #1 top grossing console gaming franchise in North America for a staggering nine years in a row, and worldwide eight out of the last nine years. Thank you to our players for your incredible passion and engagement. And thank you to our talented, committed teams all across the globe that make incredible results like this happen.”
Developed by Sledgehammer Games with the support of RavenSoftware, COD: WWII is already the best selling game among the titles of Call of Duty on the new generation consoles and the biggest digital console launch in the history of Activision Publishing. Call of Duty thus confirmed the world’s best-selling console franchise eight times out of nine in the past nine years.
Based on the data of units sold, Destiny 2 surpassed Destiny, which was the “biggest new video game IP launch in history” at the time. The highly acclaimed sequel is the first Activision title to be launched on Battle.net and is the biggest PC launch in the history of Activision Publishing. The game has won over 90 awards and nominations to date. Activision and Bungie have also released Destiny 2 Ghost Skill for Amazon Alexa, the first integration of this kind in the video game industry, which allows players to ask Alexa their Ghost tips on the activities of the game.
In 2017, Activision has released Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, a remastered collection with one of the most iconic and famous personalities in the history of video games.
