Activision has confirmed that the next installment in the popular Call of Duty license is currently under construction for release at the end of 2016. This new FPS game will be developed by the development team at Infinity Ward.
While Ubisoft is not going to release a new episode of Assassin’s Creed this year, Activision cannot consider taking a one year of gap without an original component of Call of Duty (CoD). Also, the US publisher confirmed that it will issue a Call of Duty in 2016.
For once, it will be Infinity Ward development studio to undertake the development of this new FPS title. The company to whom we owe the Modern Warfare series is thus preparing its next title which will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2016.
For now, no details have been specified on the relevant platforms, but are very likely that the PC, PS4 and Xbox One will be in order. The question is whether Activision will continue to support a PS3/Xbox 360 as was the case with a lite version of Black Ops 3 in 2015.
The last two games in the series of first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, have been developed by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games respectively.
In its financial report for the fourth quarter, Activision said that Call of Duty: Black Ops III was the number one game globally for the annual calendar. The franchise has sold over 250 million units worldwide.
