Brendan Greene rose to fame for being the creator of PUBG, one of the most popular titles of recent times. While the game still enjoys a good fame, Greene already thinks about his next project.
The developer is aware that there are many expectations placed on his next game. He also knows that it runs the risk of not having the same scope and impact as with PUBG. During an interview with EDGE, Greene claimed to feel some pressure regarding his next title.
“Yeah, I am dreading my next game, because it’s PlayerUnknown’s Next Game. And there’s going to be eyes on it. No matter what I do, there’s going to be a lot of critics going, “Well, it’s no PUBG.” And I’ve accepted that – I am not going to make a game that’s going to get like, three million concurrent users, and tens of millions of players every month. But I’m not aiming to make that,” commented the creative.
Greene assured that his new game will be different from PUBG, not only on the subject, because he believes that it will not reach a player base as big as the Battle Royale.
“I want to make a game I want to play, and if other people want to play it, that’s fantastic – but ultimately, if they don’t, I’ll still have a game that I can play. So that’s my outlook: I’m probably going to get shit on, but that’s okay,” Greene added.
Despite his statements, the developer does not contemplate announcing anything in the near future. At the moment, he will continue to focus on PUBG, especially on its growth in the esports scene. On the other hand, in the past Greene commented that the title will have support for up to 20 years.
Greene was also interested in the growth of the Battle Royale genre and spoke briefly about the imitators, as well as their possible success in the market. Part of his team already revealed his strategy to follow to improve various aspects of PUBG.
