Blizzard Would Love To Bring Overwatch to Nintendo Switch
With the arrival of Diablo III to Nintendo Switch, many fans have been excited about the possibility of playing more games of Blizzard on the hybrid console. One of the main candidates for this is Overwatch, popular hero shooter. If you’d like to play it on the Nintendo console, you’ll be happy to know that, although nothing is confirmed, it’s something Blizzard would love to see happen.
“Our philosophy has always been we want as many players playing Overwatch as possible, and we want to reach as many possible Overwatch players as are out there,” said Jeff Kaplan, director of Overwatch, in an interview with Eurogamer. “We will always explore a platform if we think we could make it viable – both the technology and the business relationship. We would love to do it.”
A little later, Kaplan lowered the expectations by noting that, at the moment, they have nothing to announce about a port of Overwatch for Nintendo Switch. Immediately afterward, he was questioned as to whether at least it is a possibility, to which he replied: “It’s something we’re very open-minded about.”
Recall that the company originally discarded it, arguing that it would be a great challenge and that they preferred to concentrate on creating content for existing versions. That said, with the passage of time the company has been more open to the possibility. We’ll see if the success of Switch and the good relationship of Blizzard with Nintendo brings us this port.
Finally, it is worth remembering that Kaplan’s statements do not confirm anything. That is to say, he is excited about this possibility, it does not mean that Blizzard is already working on bringing Overwatch to Switch. We will be on the lookout and will inform you when there is something official.
In recent news, it was confirmed that there are no plans to make the game free-to-play at the moment. On the other hand, Blizzard is constantly talking with Sony and Microsoft for its cross-play.
Overwatch is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
