According to the head of EA Studios, Patrick Soderlund, BioWare will soon announce its new IP, where it has been working for quite some time and of which little we know, because details about it have been minimal.
“We’ve been very open about the fact that BioWare is working on a new IP, and we’ll get to talk about that in the not too distant future,” Soderlund said in an interview with GI.biz. “We have other teams working on new IP as well. I think it’s about a balance, right? Making sure that we continue to push what great looks like for Battlefield or FIFA or Madden–or Star Wars, for that matter–while continuing to invest in something new.”
Speaking generally about creating new properties, Soderlund said the video game industry has improved in recent years to analyze and understand what projects work and what projects cannot give results. According to the executive, EA is now closer to the players, taking test data and opinions to determine what the next step will give. However, he also made clear that the company does not seek to “design by committee.”
“That’s not who we are, but we do want to make sure that we have touch points with players out there, so we can understand if we’re thinking about this in the right way,” he explained.
Earlier this year, EA said that one of its studios was working on a new IP that would be announced soon. And although there was no news at E3 2016, in March BioWare employee went to an event with a t-shirt showing this new property, but nobody noticed.
Also, during a meeting with investors, EA left see that BioWare is contributing to the growth of the category of action, so the next game could get away from the RPG studio scheme leading to driving for a long time.
For now, we will wait for more details, and as seems, it will not take long to know the project that BioWare is working on.
Remember that the next title of BioWare will be Mass Effect: Andromeda, a space adventure game that will debut sometime in 2017.
