Analyst: Exclusive Games Are Far From The Only Factor in Buying Consoles

All companies in the industry strive to have exclusive games. Of course, this part of the catalog of a console is important, especially when deciding to acquire a specific system. However, Lewis Ward, director of the DCI firm, said that is not the only factor or the most important when it comes to choosing one console or another.
Ward talked mostly about the case of Sony and PlayStation 4. The analyst said that the company has great exclusives. Ward highlighted the company’s ability to generate content. This quality and the relative ease to create is due to its great experience in other areas of the entertainment industry, such as cinema.
The director of DCI emphasized the narrative power of some of Sony’s exclusive titles, which makes them stand out from the offer given by the rest of the companies.
“Well, like Nintendo, Sony has a massive worldwide game development team. Sony of course makes movies and music and other forms of entertainment, so understanding story structure and character development is in their DNA,” Ward said during an interview with GamingBolt.
“Sony’s internal studios like to tell beautiful looking stories that have some emotional impact, possibly with a deeper message or philosophy buried in them if you think about them. That’s an increasingly unusual position in the games industry,” the analyst added.
Ward shared a graph of a survey conducted halfway through this year. It shows the results of the factors that are taken into account to acquire a new console. The analyst highlighted the fact that exclusives are not as important as one might think, but price, bundles, graphics quality and other elements.
Nearly 3,000 players from the United States participated in the survey. “Exclusive games are far from the only factor in buying decisions, but they’re nearly tied for 3rd most important factor,” Ward concluded.
PlayStation Experience 2017 is just around the corner, it will be held from 9 to 10 December at the Convention Center in Anaheim, California. In the event, we will know more information about some of the most important games for PlayStation 4, as there will be panels about The Last of Us: Part II, Dreams, and Ghost of Tsushima.
In addition, news titles like God of War, whose release date is likely to be leaked, as well as Detroit: Become Human, among others, are expected.
