Through a tweet posted by the well-known leaker TUM_APISAK, we discover that the AMD SoC intended to be the hardware base of PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Scarlett could be almost ready to be mass-produced. The Twitter user has revealed the existence of a test sample of the chip. AMD Gonzalo, which is the name of this chip, was not officially confirmed by AMD but seems to be the APU destined for the next generation of consoles.
The first rumors about AMD Gonzalo appeared as early as last January. However, today’s information contains new information with the following code: “ZG16702AE8JB2_32/10/18_13F8“. This sample is slightly different from the one that emerged at the beginning of the year. For example, the current one should have a basic clock at 1.6 GHz, therefore higher than the previously emerged version.
The “B2” of the code replaces the “A2” and indicates how it is a definitive model. “13F8”, which replaces “13E9”, should instead indicate the presence of a more powerful GPU, compared to the previously reported Navi 10 Lite, going from a 1GHz clock to a 1.8GHz clock.
Assuming that the code reading is correct, AMD Gonzalo should be a remarkable SoC. Tell us, what do you think of this new information? What would you think of a PS5 and an Xbox Scarlett that could mount the new (hypothetical) AMD proposal?
