Amazon Game Studios Cancels Breakaway Video Game

The company will now focus on new projects.

Breakaway Video Game

Amazon announced a couple of years ago that it would fully enter the development of games. It was in September 2016 that we had the first glimpse of Breakaway, a competitive title by Amazon Game Studios and Double Helix.

If you were excited about this first big project of the company, we have bad news for you. Through a statement, the studio confirmed that it canceled the development of Breakaway. The developers said they are working on several important changes for their first game. However, there came a time when their expectations were so high that their advances did not meet their demands.

“In spite of our efforts, we didn’t achieve the breakthrough that made the game what we all hoped it could be. After a lot of soul searching, the team decided to focus on new ideas. As a result, Breakaway is no longer in active development,” the company confirmed.

Amazon Game Studios did not talk about their future projects; however, it clarified that there will be new information as soon as they have important details to share. On the other hand, everything indicates that its other confirmed games, Crucible and New World, are still standing. This is despite the fact that it has been a long time since we know anything about them.

“We remain exceptionally proud of the team’s work, and feel privileged to have been a part of such a dedicated and enthusiastic community. We will reach out to this channel as soon as we have news to share regarding our new projects, and if a thunderbolt of inspiration strikes that leads us back to Breakaway, you’ll be the first to know,” the studio concluded.

Breakaway was focused on fighting 4 vs. 4. According to its official description, the title was a competitive mythological brawler built for fast action, teamwork and livestreaming.

We will have to wait to learn some details of the new Amazon Game Studios projects.
