Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the sales results of PlayStation 4 in 2017, and it turns out that five years ago we would probably never have expected a console in 2017. While the console market in the East declines and gamers concentrate on mobile devices, in 2017 the PS4 had its best year ever, selling as many as 20.2 million units.

Yesterday, Sony announced that it sold 5.9 million PS4 consoles during the Christmas season, but the analyst at Niko Partners, Daniel Ahmad (also known as ZhugeEX), wanted to dig deep into the sales figures for the full year.

So we find out that 2017 was the best year for PlayStation 4: in the last twelve months, Sony sold 20.2 million PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles, an increase compared to 17.5 million units distributed in 2016.

The figures for games were also positive, during the past year, the software for PlayStation sold 243.9 million units, a figure that includes retail sales and digital downloads. Since 2013, 645 million games have been sold for PlayStation 4 worldwide.
